Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 Review: A Dual-Action Device For All Body Hair

BODY GROOMING IS an extensive exercise, with more style options than hairs on my chest (read: a lot). BODY GROOMING IS an extensive exercise, with more style options than hairs on my chest (read: a lot). As a naturally hairy dude, I tend to aim for the Mark Ruffalo or Jude Law school of thought that highlights well-trimmed chest hair around the shoulders and back. But not everybody aspires to the body fur of early aughts rom-com leads. Some prefer as little body hair as possible, while others like to mix it up. When it comes to a body groomer that can reach across the aisle, handling every style and length, few are more equipped than the ultra-versatile Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000.

Philips Norelco is no stranger to thinking outside the box when it comes to grooming devices. For proof, look no further than the innovative OneBlade, with its multi-directional Swiffer Sweeper-looking blade head design that completely changed how an electric razor can perform when detailing. The brand brings a similar approach to the Bodygroom Series 7000, reimagining an electric razor and trimmer as one dual-sided device. The result has the look of what I’d imagine Darth Maul would use for his manscaping, with as much versatility and precision as a double-sided lightsaber.

Design and Features

The dual-sided heads offer two grooming options, a foil blade for closer shaves and a trimmer for longer lengths. This makes the tool ideal for grooming across every part of the body (chest, back, stomach, pits, legs, groin, etc.) without committing to one uniform length. Its flexible, four-dimensional shaver head pivots smoothly to creep into every crevice by adapting to any body curves.

Then there are the self-sharpening steel blades that maintain peak efficiency even after six months of use, while rounded blade tips and a gentle foil head ensure minimal skin irritation. Like every great body groomer, the Series 7000 is waterproof and safe for wet or dry use. The device includes an adjustable comb on the trimmer ranging from three to 11 millimeters for the unique hair styling demands of each body part.

It doesn’t include a case, which can make it a bit clunky to store. Not to mention, this opens the door for possibly attracting bacteria if you leave it out anywhere in the bathroom that’s not enclosed, so I’d recommend keeping it in a drawer or somewhere enclosed.

But the fact that it doesn’t require any attachments beyond the one built-in adjustable comb (a charger and cleaning brush are the only other things included), helps make up for this by being easy to store. The tool is also heavier than many other grooming devices I’ve tested, so it takes a learning curve for precise control. It also gets 80 minutes off of one charge, though navigating the charging process can be a bit of a dice roll (more on that shortly).

Effectiveness

I have a lot of body hair that I like to keep at various lengths depending on the area. I like to leave some length on my chest hair, mostly detailing around it to keep everything in check. But for my shoulders, I’m going as short as possible, and my lower body, I keep somewhere in between.

Grooming with the Series 7000 allowed me to switch back and forth between these opposing zones with ease. There are two separate buttons on the device, one for the foil head and one for the trimmer. I turn the trimmer on with a high attachment to manage my chest hair. Then quickly switch it off, flip the device around, turn on the other button, and take the shaver to my shoulders.

With other devices, this process involves a bunch of detaching and reattaching combs, which wears on your patience over time. But with the Bodygroom, it takes little more than a flick of the wrist to spin the device around. It’s also surprisingly compact, despite its heft. Once you get used to the weight of it, you can adjust the attachment lengths and whip it across your body fairly quickly.

As someone with the level of body hair maintenance that I have, this saves me loads of time. The trimmer head plows through thick hair, too. After, let’s say, a long winter, I did some drastic body grooming with this end and it never struggled to take down hairs or clog up, especially if I pop the attachment comb off the trimmer head. That said, the foil head will struggle with more than a few weeks of growth.

The pivoting design is great for sneaking into tiny crevices, but I have accidentally popped it during rush jobs when I pressed too hard. Once I got used to what it can handle, though, it hasn’t happened since. The battery performance isn’t always reliable, either. There’s no charge indicator to let you know where you are in the 80 minutes of runtime, so I’ve had it shut down mid-trim more than once.

I typically just plan to recharge after every two or three sessions, and this has kept it from turning off mid-job. When it comes to the length I’m going for, however, this tool (especially the trimmer end) is as consistent as they come. Plus, I rarely have to go over one area a second time—something I’ve often run into with body groomers.

Value

When it comes to body groomers, you’re going to have to spend close to $100 for a top-performing option. So, to land a device with the effectiveness and versatility of the Bodygroom Series 7000 at $70 (on sale right now for $60!), it’s a great value. The only other bargain option that surpasses it is the brand’s OneBlade, but while I love that tool’s ability to detail and shave comfortably, it has nowhere near the level of length options as the Bodygroom. Not to mention, the OneBlade can struggle with longer hair, whereas the Series 7000 plows through coarse areas. With that in mind, you’d be hard pressed to find a better body groomer value.

How to Clean

The Bodygroom 7000 is designed to be used in the shower, so it is completely waterproof. This, of course, makes clean up as easy as running the blade under the faucet for a few seconds. At least this is true for the trimmer side. The foil blade sides can occasionally take a bit longer (only a couple of minutes, to be clear), as hair can get stuck in the tighter blades and require a few runs over with your thumb to get each strand out. Still, I’ve been using this body groomer for months, and clean up has never lasted more than five minutes.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000?

A versatile dual-sided tool featuring one foil razor for shaving and a trimmer on the other for managing length, the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 can efficiently handle any body grooming you throw at it. Fully waterproof for in-shower sessions and easy clean up, this tool offers a streamlined experience. Sure, it’s more effective at trimming than shaving, but for those who like to manage body hair without going fully bald, it’s a great option. Plus, at $70, it’s one of the best body grooming values out there.
