Carrie Anne-Moss Goes Toe-to-Toe With Arnold Schwarzenegger as Greta Nelso in FUBAR Season 2

EVERYTHING ABOUT FUBAR, Netflix’s hit Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring action/comedy/adventure series, feels like a throwback to the ’90s. From the plot and tone—clearly taking notes from True Lies, starring Arnold and directed by James Cameron—to the presence of the man formerly known as The Terminator himself, it’s a throwback that fans of a certain type of movie should be happy exists.
Keeping with the theme, then, it makes sense for FUBAR to tap into one of the most iconic action movies of the ’90s (and all time) in season 2. And let’s be clear on this—it’s a big one. Much of FUBAR season 2’s set-up involves something called “The Greta Code,” which is frequently discussed but something only Arnold’s superspy Luke Brunner knows the true meaning of. That is, until Greta Nelson herself shows up.
Greta Nelso, it turns out, is a badass East German spy herself, and she and Luke have some history. But most importantly, Greta is played by Carrie-Anne Moss (putting on quite the accent!), who is best known for her iconic, stylish, and extremely badass role as Trinity in 1999’s The Matrix and the three sequel movies that have also come since.
FUBAR generally settles itself around one main conflict, and in season 2, that’s the presence of Greta, who appears in the early on to be somewhere between an antagonist and evil. Greta was an old lover of Luke’s, and she was presumed dead after a car accident led the world to think she drowned in 1989. They’ve got chemistry, dancing a Tango and bouncing off each other right from the jump.
It comes as no surprise that two action movie icons can make some magic together, and FUBAR pulls it off.
Carrie-Anne Moss plays Greta Nelso in FUBAR season 2
Part of the problem of having a star as iconic and beloved as Arnold Schwarzenegger is that you need to find someone at least close to their level to take them on. FUBAR hits this nail right on the head in season 2, bringing in the iconic Carrie-Anne Moss to play Greta Nelso, who is both Luke Brunner’s (Schwarzenegger) past lover and current enemy,
Moss became an action and style legend from her role in 1999’s The Matrix as Trinity, where she starred alongside Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. She played the character three more times, appearing in The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and The Matrix Resurrections, bringing Trinity to totally badass life each time.
Her career is more than just Matrix, though. She also starred in Christopher Nolan‘s breakout film Memento alongside Guy Pearce and Disturbia alongside Shia LaBeouf among other roles. She’s made her mark on TV as well, appearing in shows like Marvel’s Jessica Jones as lawyer extraordinare Jeri Hogarth (along with guest spots in a few of the other Netflix-produced Marvel shows) and last year played a powerful Jedi in the Star Wars series The Acolyte.
FUBAR is far from Moss’s first rodeo, and given how active she’s remained not only in film and on television but in the action space, it’s likely to be far from her last as well.
